Overview
The Opteka Macro Close-up +10 Lens is a close-up diopter lens which allows you to decrease the minimum focus distance on any lens, in turn increasing the effective maximum reproduction ratio of your lens. This lens' dioptric power is enough to simulate true macro-like performance (up to 1:2 or 1:1.5). The advanced two-element Opteka achromatic diopter turns your lens into a true macro. Also known as macro zoom attachments, the achromatic diopter provides lenses with more close-up range and magnification, while maintaining full zoom capabilities - without compromising image quality. They are designed to maintain a flat field and edge-to-edge sharpness without chromatic aberration or image degradation. The hard anti-reflective coating greatly reduces light loss and flare, while also helping to guarantee proper color and contrast. Opteka macro lenses are constructed from high quality HD multicoated glass for increased optical clarity and co lor fidelity. It is recommended to use middle apertures, such as f/8 or f/11, in order to achieve corner-to-corner sharpness. Its compact, lightweight design allows anyone to experience the fun and ease of macro photography, without the added bulk and expense. This lens features 58mm front threads to all the use UV, CPL or other filters. Includes a 52mm step ring for use with 58mm or 52mm threaded lenses.Specifications Optics: HD multicoated anti-reflective glass Construction: All metal body Front Thread: 58mm Mount: Fits lenses with 58mm or 52mm filter threadsIncludes Opteka 10x Macro Lens (direct 58mm) Adapters - 52mm Lens caps Pouch 5 year warranty Opteka Achromatic 10x Diopter Close-Up Macro Lens for Canon EOS 80D, 70D, 60D, 50D, 1Ds, 7D, 6D, 5D, 5DS, T6s, T6i, T6, T5i, T5, T4i, T3i, T3 and SL1 Digital SLR Cameras (Fits 52mm and 58mm Threads)

Poor quality
The quality of the photos are very poor. It only has sharpness on the 20-30% of the photo at its centre and the rest of the photo is burry and not in a good way!The lens is also very heavy and makes me wonder if it would damage my lens underneath it.I would not recommend. Would return it if it was an option. - Reviewed by Captain Canada (Reviewed in Canada on January 25, 2017)
I'm Ready For My Close-Up, Mister DeMille
One gets what one pays for, but at this price point you really can't go wrong. By the saying of which I mean that this little close-up lens isn't perfect. It seems to reduce depth-of-field to a very narrow band even in good lighting conditions, and there is a very obvious dark ring round the image when the lens to which it's attached is at a wide angle. These things are to be expected I gues s because of how much I *didn't* pay. HOWEVER! For the price (less than $40CA) this is a great little accessory! I'll say this: it's very sturdily built, with an encouraging amount of weight in one's hand indicating robust manufacture. Made to fit a 58mm filter thread, it comes with adapter rings for 40.5mm and 49mm lenses so you can adapt it to pretty much whatever you like, although anything bigger than 58mm would be, I guess, a poor match. In addition to the adapters it comes with a handy little draw-string bag and a cleaning cloth. Anyway I tried it out straight away using my wee budgie as subject material and I was gobsmacked at the detail it brings to life! Although my Sony NEX-5R with its 18-55mm kit lens has a macro mode, this makes it even better. It captures details in the bird's plumage which are far too small to be visible to the naked eye, such as his eyelashes. Yes, budgies have eyelashes; who knew? But I digress. Like I said, it's not perfect but I' m going to give it a very happy five stars because it's such a favourable price. If you need a close-up lens but are feeling the pinch in this economy, this is an ideal solution until you can save for something a little more high end, which you might even find you don't have to. Highly recommended. :-) - Reviewed by Z Dimic (Reviewed in Canada on December 30, 2018)
Fantastic!!!
You need to understand that macro is hard! It requires you to have good camera support(tripod or similar) for steady shot, consider lighting, as you will be close to subjects blocking lots of light. shallow depth of field is ridiculous, hence you need to close aperture, exacerbating light issue etc... Your ability to focus also takes on much smaller range as is to be expected. On my Sony 28mm F2, range dropped to something like 10cm-25cm from original 29cm to infinityNow, if you understand that macro is hard, so you don't expect a miracle, this is the best toy ever fo r $25 or so! I'm not using word toy in a disparaging way, just that you can enjoy yourself and experiment for super low cash outlay, and if you like what you're getting, you can go and get a proper macro lens.Build of this lens add-on looks good, optical quality seems just fine looking at the global picture (didn't pixel peep), and there is much to enjoy in the process.Laowa and Opteka seem to be the same company, and Laowa (Venus) is doing some truly amazing stuff with lenses that never existed before, like wide angle macro, wide angle - 'zero' distortion etc...I'm putting effort in this review (I usually don't do reviews) because I wish them all the best and to succeed. - Reviewed by Amazon Customer (Reviewed in Canada on April 13, 2019)
Worth $30
Ok ive had a chance to play with this a bit. All comments are in light of its $30 price tag. All photos with this product have been on the standard 18-55mm IS STM canon kit lens. Compared to just th e lens under good light conditions there is a difference in quality when one zooms in for Macro on plant flower formation... It noticable and worth the $30. Is it a jaw dropping difference? No. Also you have to take multiple shots as more then a few shoot out of focus in certain areas of the photo. If your going to get really into macro where it is 25% + of all your photography dont bother, save up and get a macro lens, but if you want to improve close up shots and are willing to be patient and careful you can get better macros with this attached to your lens. It is worth $30 to me especially when my peak2 Gobe uv filters cost just over $30 a pop anyways. Its a handy cheap tool to have in your bag. - Reviewed by Amazon Customer (Reviewed in Canada on January 22, 2018)
Works as advertised using a NIKON D500 52mm kit lens.
Hello,I purchased this for use with a Nikon kit lens AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm, DX, which came with my D5200 camera 4 years ago. I'm currently using the 18-55mm kit lens with a newer Nikon D500. The macro lens is a 67mm thread mount, with a 52mm-67mm adapter, so the MACRO lens fits my 52mm 18-55mm kit lens using the adapter, but not my 55-300mm telephoto which is a 58mm thread. The lens works as advertised. In general:(1) depth of field is very shallow, even with the aperature set to a high F22 setting.(2) Be extremely careful threading on and off. If not lined up perfectly, you can cross-thread the lens or adapter very easily.(3) Worth the money since it's very inexpensive, gives very basic Macro functionality.(4) Ironically, I get just about the same quality macro photos using digital zoom on my Samsung S6 cellphone camera. - Reviewed by Dylon (Reviewed in Canada on December 30, 2018)
Doesn't compare to a true macro lens.
Honestly, I thought this would be a great idea for an assignment, just like the poor mans version of a macro lens...but it's not. It's hon estly as if you're putting a magnifying glass in front of your lens, there is detail loss (especially on the edges) and while I'm sure you can take decent photos with these, I wouldn't recommend it over a true Macro. Do some research on amazon, I've seen (and now have) a cheaper macro that's fully manual which is the main reason for the price, 2.8f lens, it's very nice. After using that in comparison, this little thing is basically garbage.Do a little research before you buy, but if you absolutely can't afford even a $150 macro, I'd personally just save up.Again, that's not necessarily saying you can't take decent pictures with this, but in comparison, it's not good and you can easily tell the differences. Certainly not for professional use, casual messing around at best.
