Overview
The new SP70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Generation 2 for Canon) telephoto lens features an improved 3 mode VC (Vibration Compensation), faster AF speed and accuracy, and shortened MOD (Minimum Object Distance) for greater flexibility. What's more, compatibility with Tamron tele converters provides additional focal length. Every aspect of the SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 zoom has been improved, providing high image quality and enhanced bokeh throughout. Optical design features include XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass to eliminate chromatic aberrations across the entire zoom range, ensuring optimum resolution- even at the edges. Two exclusive teleconverters, which match the optics of the new SP 70-200mm G2, offer 1.4x and 2.0x magnification, and provide a maximum zoom range up to 400mm. Know what you getting...with the warranty
Lens is really good. I love it. Its fast, responsive, and it just looks badass.but...The warranty is invalid. On the site it said that the lens had a Canadian warranty. I bought the lens, and I tried to register it. The website said "ok". I got an email from Tamron a few days later saying that they couldn't find the serial number in their database. I sent them a few pics of the lens serial and sent them the link where I bought the lens - here. They said that the serial is actually USA serial number and would apply to Tamron USA BUT because amazon.ca is not an authorized seller of the lens, there would be no warranty.I returned the lens.BUT great lens. - Reviewed by KeensightPhotography (Reviewed in Canada on April 10, 2019)
Beats Canon 70-200f2.8 L USM IS 3 on every count
Pros: image quality at all focal lengths is comparable to or superior to Canon's rival, and better than their equivalently priced unitVery solid build qualityZoom does not extend, focus does not rotateVery short throw (1/5 turn for all focal length) zoomArca style tripod mount on the support collarRubberized front element surroundVery discrete shade of black/rubberized finishExtremely quiet and very effective IS. When compared to my Canon 100mm f2.8L IS which sounds like a blender.Cons: included lens hood feels very cheap and fragile. Not very positive click in when locked in place, and hard to reverse mount to transport lensIncluded pouch is extremely cheap qualityWeight... if lugging around all day, a monopod would be useful. The penalty of the quality glass and mechanisms, and no heavier than the Canon offeringNo major faults. In my opinion better than the equivalent Canon, and for non-sport subjects, better optics than the Sigma equivalent (Sport series) - Reviewed by K.Trudeau (Reviewed in Canada on July 30, 2019)
Outstanding lens.
Just a fantastic lens. Whether you're pro or enthusiast this lens is fantastic. Tamron is setting a new standard with many of its SP lenses and this workhorse 70 - 200 mm zoom is no exception. Not only does it offer outstanding value at its price point, but it is a standout in nearly every category against all competitors including the Canon L series. If you really want the red stripe so you can be seen sporting L series glass, then by all means step up and pay the extra grand or so. But if you want just about the best lens you can get (without spending 5 or 6 k) then this will not disappoint. My only complaint is the placement of the buttons on the side which can get inadvertently switched by your hand if you're not paying attention. Once you adjust to this you become conscious of it so it fades as a concern over time.I definitely do recommend this lens. - Revie wed by Mike Shelly (Reviewed in Canada on October 21, 2019)
This is my second one - love them both!
This lens is unreal value. I have several other Canon L lenses that are $2000+ and this one is right up there. In fact I chose this over the Canon 70-200 mk ii (F2.8) after trying each for a week. I couldn't tell the difference besides some VERY VERY slight vignetting in the corners (which was easily handled by lightroom presets) and besides, in some shots I preferred how it pulled me into the center. This is not a backup lens, this is a workhorse, go-to lens that you will want to ALWAYS keep on your camera.I recommend getting the Lowepro Toploader Pro 75 AW II Camera Case for your DSLR (full-frame) and your 70-200. They go perfectly together, and I can slip my monopod into the meshing on the side of the case and I am all set to go. I can even jam a 50mm lens in the case as well. - Reviewed by Marco Primeau (Reviewed in Canada on November 13, 201 7)
Great quality and fonctionnality, but heavy.
I love it, 70-200 is great.I also bought a Tamron X2 extender and it does a good job out a sunny day.Nice focus and stabilisation !f2.8 is a must have. The only negative is the weight. If you don't mind carying a brick, this is for you ! - Reviewed by Mark Lightfoot (Reviewed in Canada on October 30, 2017)

Excellent investment for my kit. Currently using it in Burma and I'm blowing my own mind when it comes to the portraits I'm taking of the people here. Love it. Glad I didn't spend the extra for the Canon 70-200mm. - Reviewed by Mr. Crusty (Reviewed in Canada on February 24, 2020)
Great Lens for the price
I shoot just for fun so this lens is a much better deal than the comparable canon product. Have just taken a few photos but am impressed with the quality. Going to Ireland and Iceland soon and will put it to the tes t then - Reviewed by Renaldo (Reviewed in Canada on December 22, 2018)
