Great macro lens for EYES!
I bought this lens for my Canon T5i Camera which I use at work. I wanted to specifically get good pictures of eyes and capture details of the iris and lids of human eyes. This lens works great! The ring light is plenty bright to softly illuminate the subject and I specifically like how you can toggle which side of the ring illuminates; this helps avoid casting a shadow near the nose.For more general use, I have taken pictures of plants and bugs and the image quality is great. There is minimal chromatic aberration and the pictures are sharp. I did find the ring light less helpful in these pictures as there was usually enough ambient light in those settings to offset the need and power of the ring light. I guess it would be different for plants and bugs in poorly lit or shaded areas.The autofocus is smooth and silent as is typical for STM style focussing systems but the drive by wire focus doesn't work as well in this lens for me as I had some difficulty adjusting the ring just enough (usually the computer would either overshoot or undershoot where I wanted). Maybe this will take some getting used to.Build quality is great and I really like how Canon is putting metal mounts even in it's cheaper lens offerings. The plastic mounts simply just did not last.In summary, I like this lens! It serves my need well but it is a rather niche product. I'd recommend
